Week 51: Feng Xiaogang Personally Tailored the Market
According to statistics from EBOT EntGroup Box Office Tracker, the mainland box office gross of the 51st week (December 16-22) was nearly ¥500 million ($80 million), increased 24% from last week and decreased 28% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 13.94 million.
Distributed by Huayi Bros., Personal Tailor mustered almost $52 million during its opening four days. Firestorm hung on with a $16.22 million haul in second place, a 40% drop from the previous week. After twenty days in release, No Man's Land earned $4.56 million with 77245 showings, which was nearly 50% drop compared to 135099 showing last week. Enlight's The Four 2 wind up with $2.64 million in fourth place. Older runner The White Storm, Epic and Gravity brought in $2.39 million, $0.64 million and $0.54 million respectively in the past seven days. Opening quietly on the same day with Personal Tailor, Korean flick A Werewolf Boy took $0.39 million in the Chinese marketplace, which accounts for only 0.6% of the weekly box office nationwide. Domestic production Return the Money scored $0.17 million. As of last Sunday, the cume of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire stood at $27.92 million, which was no good result for the popular adaption from North America.
