Three Foreign Blockbusters to Hit China this Friday
In the past week (Oct. 10-16), Steven Spielberg’s “The BFG” filed to dethrone “Operation Mekong”. “The BFG” opened in third for its first week. By the end of Oct.19, “The BFG” got RMB 116 million for six days, according to ENbase.
Other two foreign new releases, Russian sci-fi thriller “Mafia: Survival Game”and Paramount’s “Ben-Hur” performed just so-so, ranked seventh and eighth place in the week chart, respectively.
This Friday (Oct. 21), there are three foreign movies to hit the Middle Kingdom.
Jack Reacher, starring Tom Cruise, returns with his particular brand of justice in the highly anticipated sequel "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back."
Cruise is one of the most popular Hollywood megastars in China, whose blockbuster “Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation” grossed RMB 870 million in the country. The revenue made the title rank 8th in the 2015 annual box office chart of imported movies the People’s Republic.
Jason Statham's “Mechanic: Resurrection” will compete with “Jack Reacher” at the same day. The prior “Mechanic” franchise was not be so successful when arrived Chinese cinemas four years ago, only making RMB 89 million.
British veteran Statham has lots of fans in China. He starred in last year's “Fast and Furious 7”, which to date is the highest-grossing foreign film in the Middle Kingdom, making more than RMB 2.4 billion.
An animated feature from Japan, “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F',” is also scheduled on Oct. 21st. The Dragon Ball spinoff will screen in Mainland as its same version in Japan without cutting.
