The top three films for the previous week continued their solid performances, sitting in the same places of the boxoffice chart for this past week. “The Bullet Vanishes” ended its second week of release topping the boxoffice chart, adding $10.78 million for a total of $23.67 million. “The Silent War” grossed boxoffice revenue of $7.29 million in its third week of screening, while it totaled $38.03 million as of last Sunday. Riding on Chinese Valentines’ Day, local romance-comedy “Holding Love” debuted to number four with $6.62 million. This past week, domestic films continued to reign supreme over the boxoffice market, accounting for 80% of the weekly gross, which was slightly higher than the number from last week.

Chinese Valentines’ Day came to last Thursday, as the openings of a bunch of films centralized in the time slot- a total of seven newly-released films started their theater run this past week. But none of these could rock the positions of “The Bullet Vanishes” and “The Silent War”, due to the two smash hits’ solid performances. Law Chi-Leung, director of “The Bullet Vanishes”, Alan Mak and Flix Chong, directors and scriptwriters of “The Silent War”, are Hong Kong directors reputable for their suspense movies. Their latest works came with high expectations. The two domestic suspense movies also have casts of big household names.

On the Chinese Valentine’s Day, which is also called Qi Xi Festival, as many as six fresh films got released on the same day, including romance comedy “Holing Love”, which took in $6.62 million over four days in release. The real life couple Yang Mi and Hawick Lau co-starred for the first time portraying a newly-weds, who during their honeymoon is Sanya experience a hilarious adventure. Another newly-released comedy “The Fortune Buddies” also scored a good mark on boxoffice, raking in $0.63 million in four days in release, sitting in number nine place of the boxoffice chart. Ancient-costumed comedy “The Lion Roars 2” added $6.34 million for a total of $11.1 million in its second week of release. “Lethal Hostage” collected $2.69 million this past week, which was acclaimed both on critical and commercial success. The latest installment of “Pleasant Goat” series- "I Love Wolffy” added $1.43 million for a total of $11.25 million this past week.

According to enFilmbase statistics, “The Bullet Vanishes” continued to reign over the mainland boxoffice screenings, enjoying 18% of the market share in terms of total number of screenings, followed by “The Lion Roars 2”, which took in 14% of the weekly screenings, though the ancient-comedy failed to collect boxoffice receipts as much as been expected, due to its low average admissions per screen. The espionage film “The Silent War” and newly-released romance “Holding Love” took additional 12% and 11% of the weekly screenings, respectively.

On August 27, in mainland China there will a head-to-head showdown that Hollywood tentpoles “The Amazing Spider Man” and “The Dark Knight Rises” are set to open on the same day, which closely followed by “Prometheus”-the Ridley Scott-directed science-fiction movie will start its theater run on September 2, just six days later. “The Amazing Spider Man” will be shown in 2D, 3D and IMAX formats here, giving it a much wider release than that of “The Dark Knight Rises”, which will be screened only in 2D and 2D/IMAX formats.
