According to enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 14th week (Apr02-08,2012) reached $40.1million, up 49% from last week. Moviegoers this week totaled 6.59million, also up 42% over last week’s numbers.

"Wrath of the Titans” easily maintained the top spot for the second week in a row, taking in a solid $17.08million in weekly gross. The Greek mythologyflick has grossed $24.54million through 10 days of release.“Love in the Buff” came in second place this week, adding $6.4million for a total of $9.34million.  In third place was “John Carter of Mars” which turned in a rather mild weekly gross of $4.93million. All in all, Hollywood films accounted for 62% of the mainland boxoffice in the 14th week of 2012.

Thanks to a nationwide three-day vacation followed two days later by a much-anticipated weekend, people finally had the opportunity to enjoy their favorite films at the cinema. Driven by 6.59million moviegoers over the entire week, the mainland box office garnered a whopping $40.1million, almost doubling receipts from last week’s seven-day work week. In another rare occurrence, not a single new film opened this week. 3D version of "Titanic” may have been responsible for that—since film distributors tried to avoid releasing their films during the same week for fear of being capsized by it (pun intended). The 3D version of the classic romance blockbuster is expected to perform very strongly.

Warner Bros’ epic “Wrath of the Titans” easily maintained the top spot for another week in a row, generating $17.08million in weekly boxoffice receipts, a surge of 130% over last week. Hong Kong director Pang Ho-Cheung’s latest entry “Love in the Buff,” brought in $6.4million this week, an increase of 118% over last week. Unlike its predecessor, this romantic comedy was shot in Beijing instead of Hong Kong. But that’s where the differences end, as the sequel continues to find favor with Chinese audiences, who are praising it with good reviews, with their mouths and also with their wallets.  “Love in the Buff” harvested the top spot among domestic films. Two other art-house feature films, “Late Autumn” and “A Simple Life,” benefited from strong word of mouth while taking in $2.01million and $0.19million respectively during the past week.

According to enbase statistics, “Wrath of the Titans” dominated mainland boxoffice screenings this week, enjoying 26% of the market share in terms of total number of screenings, followed by “Love in the Buff” which took 18% of the weekly screenings. Benefiting from an impressive performance of audience attendance per screening, local thriller “Blood Stained Shoes” was favored by movie theaters’ managers who generously gave 15% of the weekly screenings to this low-budget film.Additionally, “John Carter of Mars” and “The Unfortunate Car” took 10% and 11% of the weekly screenings respectively.

Next week (Apr. 09-15, 2012), the films below will be released in Mainland China. The 3D version of “Titanic” will be available in mainland movie theaters on 10 April as Chinese people ready themselves for an emotional reunion. The original version of "Titanic" is the second highest grossing film of all time worldwide with a superb $1.9billion total gross.
