Week 35: 'The Hundred Regiments Offensive' Tops Holiday

According to EBOT statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 35th week (Aug. 31-Sep. 6, 2015) reached $120 million, a drop of 28% than the 34th week, yet up 28% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 20.11 million, down 18% w-o-w.

"The Hundred Regiments Offensive” boosted its second week revenue into $39.4 million due to a memorial holiday for China’s 70th Anniversary of the Allied victory over Japan. 99728 of showings had been mostly booked by schools, government organizations and state-owned enterprises, gathering 5.6 million admissions during last week. Falling into the second place, “Terminator Genisys” stood still on additional $26.7 million and shared 22.2% of the market total gross in a cooling-down week. Award winner “The Dead End” enjoyed $22.4 million box office with a healthy word-of-mouth since release, which marked $42.95million total gross in 11 days.

Lagging behind top 3 films, Johnnie To’s “Office” earned $6.9 million for its first 5 days’ screening.After 53 days running, “Monster Hunt” grossed $389 million and saw a short distance to surpass “Furious 7”.

Inspirational comedy, “Go Away Mr Tumor,” went down last week’s top 4 to top 6, making $3.45 million in its fourth week. Its cumulative gross reached $81.6 million. Hou Hsiao-hsien’s “The Assassin” earned $3.02 million, for an 11 day cumulative of $9.39 million. 

Rounding out top 10 were three new films in 35th week, which totaled $4.89 million.
