Week 28: Summer Season at New $285M Weekly Peak
According to EBOT, mainland boxoffice gross in the 28th week (Jul.13-19, 2015) totaled $285million, increasing 71% from week 27 and up 104% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week boosted to 51.17million, with 65% weekly increase.
Directed by Raman Hui, “Monster Hunt,” was launched on last Thursday with $26million opening gross. It was safely ranked top with $107.02million in four-days’ screening. Showing in multiple formats, such as 3D or IMAX, “Monster Hunt” attracted over 17.92million audiences and became most profitable film as enjoying high admission-per-showing last week.
The other remarkable Chinese-produced film, “Jianbin Man”, opened on Friday and enjoyed 176331 showings and $69 million income for three days in the second place. The market’s thrid biggest share was taken by “Monkey King: Hero is Back” which re-gained nearly 200 thousand showings with 10.5 million animation audiences in its second week. It added $59.71million into $75.12million total gross. The vie between two youth romances could be found in the fourth and fifth place. “Forever Young,” last week’s No.2, surpassed former week champion“Tiny Times 4.0” with $18.13million in the 28th week.
Animation “Shaun The Sheep Movie,” the only imported film in top 10 ranking, gained $4.27 million inthe sixth place, totaling 26,000 screenings in 3 days. “Monk Comes Down The Mountain,” stood on No.7 by adding $3.5 million for $64.3 million. The next came to another animation,“GG Bond,” taking $2.28 million and backward to eighth spot. “SPL2” also saw a drop in 28th week, earning $0.35million. Yet “Begin Again” rose to top 10 and made $280,000 for a 24 days total of $3.22 million.
