Week 28 Preview: 'Monster Hunt' To Challenge 'Monk Comes Down the Mountain'

2015/7/14 10:43:00(Beijing Time)    by: Entgroup Consulting

Seven new films will try to push Monk Comes Down the Mountain out of the top spot at the Chinese box office this week.

Monster Hunt, a China-Hong Kong co-production from veteran animation director Raman Hui, looks like it stands the best chance of finishing in first place. Hui has worked on several DreamWorks Animation efforts, which gives him a reliable background. Monster Hunt is connecting well with female audiences and it also very family-friendly. According to EntGroup EFMT Marketing Index, Monster Hunt is tied with Jian Bing Man in terms of total awareness and intent to purchase.

Jian Bing Man will mark another test for the ability of a popular web series to succeed theatrically. Director/star Da Peng brings a sizable following with him.

Shaun the Sheep hits Chinese theaters after posting solid numbers in other international territories such as the UK ($20.3 million) and France ($5.3 million). Unfortunately, competing with Monster Hunt will not be an easy task.

Also opening: Die Xian Jing Hun, Cu Ju, Magic Barber, and Zhen Bian Ren
