Week 26: "Monk Comes Down the Mountain" Ranked Top in a Down Week
According to EBOT, mainland boxoffice gross in the 26th week (Jun.29-Jul.5, 2015) totaled $111million, continuing to drop 11% from week 25 and shrank 36% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 18.43million, weekly down 11%.
After censorship and the clearance of Jaycee Fong’s scenes in the film, Chen Kaige’s “Monk Comes Down The Mountain” opened with $38.3million weekly gross and stood on top of the ranking. Its four-day’s screening had took 34.3% of the market share, showing 176191 times for 5.8million audiences. Missing the high-expectation of boxoffice before the release, “Hollywood Adventures” obtained another $19.9million, which calculated a total of $47.6million for 10 days. With a significant reduction of weekly gross, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” earned $19.6 million and its total revenue reached $226.1 million in mainlland China’s market.
Flopping to the fourth place last week, “SPL2: A Time for Consequences” fought for 10.9% share of the market with $12.2 million. “I am Somebody” and ”Chang Chen Ghost Stories”, the newly released were lagged far behind “SPL2”, making $6.7million and $2million respectvely. Close to end its journey, “San Adreas” was ranked No. 7, sweeping away totally $103.19million in 34 days.
The domestic animated film, “Monkey King: Hero is Back” won $1.57 million in the previewing week with two foreign films following. Action film “Insurgent” made additional $1.54million into $17.7 million total. “Begin Again” mantianed the No. 10 , totaling $1.46million last week.
