China’s Box Office Marks 3.26Bln in First Half of 2015

China’s film market has continued to grow in H1 of 2015 with the box office revenue notched up $3.26million by June 30, 2015. According to EBOT statistics, market also saw admissions doubling as 555 million when comparing to data of 2013. The box office in first quarter accumulated $1.54billion, roughly up 30% y-o-y, mostly contributed by audiences rushing into cinemas during Chinese Lunar New Year and several other public holidays. In Q2, both B.O. revenue and moviegoers soared to the highest point among these 3 years. The significant stretching started from in April, as imported films, such as “Fast & Furious 7”, kicked off since April 12. 

Hollywood blockbusters easily took the six out of ten places, which also included two still screening. “Fast & Furious 7” became the best ticket seller in the first half of 2015 with record-breaking $399million total gross. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” settled $240million in late June, keeping distance of $29million from “Jurassic World” as the later one’s still counting 33.68million and more admissions in cinemas. Last installment of “The Hobbit” received welcomes in January from 19.17 million Chinese audiences, ranked the No.5 with $125.9million. In the eighth place was “San Andreas”, swiftly obtaining $102.7million eight-day before “Jurassic World” on.
 
As a domestic box office winner, “The Man From Macau II” squeezed into No. 4 and grossed $160million in total. Two other domestic films released on first day of Chinese Lunar New Year that rose to top earning list were “Dragon Blade” ($122.2M) and “Wolf Totem” ($114.8M).
No any films in March entered the top 10 club. Following close to “Wolf Warrior” ($89.34M), Japanese animation, “Stand by Me Doraemon”-- stood on No.10 with $87million and more to be in, which cut the number of home-grown films within Top 10 list into 4.
