Week 20: "Avengers" Took $53M More, "P.K." Hit Top 2
According to EBOT statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 20th week (May 18-24, 2015) dipped to $74.8million, decreasing 57% than its last week, down 8% y-o-y. Admissions of the week shrank into 46% of 19th week, no more than 12.45million.
With a significant reduction of moviegoers, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” still marked up an impressive total gross of $209.39 by taking $52.98million in its second week. Its share also drop to 72.2% in last week’s film market and would gradually fall back with more new contenders. P.K. kicked off with 6.9% market share in the second place, earning $5.14million from 51281 showings and one million audiences. The No.3 film went to a domestic romance flick, “Love Without Distance”, counting $3.55million weekly gross. “Chappie”, No. 2 film of week 19, stepped back in the fourth place by adding another $2.6million last week.
As market cooling down for blockbusters, middle-budegt ones and arthouse work earned more than their opening week. “The Beloved” moved forward to the fifth place and gained $1.64million, plusing $240,000 vs. openning week. Also, “12 Citizens” rose to No.7 last week , earning additional $1.15million to $1.68million total gross.
After weeks of screenings in advance, “Alibaba and the Thief” eventually debuted and marked up a modest $1.06million opening week gross in the eighth place. “The Left Ear” followed “Alibaba and The Theif” very close, conttibuting $1.02 million to $78 milllion cultimative gross for 31 days. Debuted on the same day as “The Left Ear”, animated film “Home” grossed only$27.7 million in total.
