Week 8: 'The Man From Macau II' Beat "Drangon Blade" after Lunar New Year
According to EBOT statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 8th week (Feb. 23-Mar. 1, 2015) reached $242.15million, up 8% w-o-w, and flying 239% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 38.6million, with growth of 9% than the 7th week.
"The Man from Macau II” toppled over Jackie Chan’s “Dragon Blade” to the top spot with another $69.78million, and its admissions surged to 10.93million last week. Acting stronger in its second week, “Wolf Totem” weekly grossed $47.24million in the second place. The top 3 boxoffice earner was “Dragon Blade”, gaining $45.88million from 18.9% of the market in the eighth week. The big budget home-grown fantasy, “Zhong Kui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal”, totaled $58.97milllion boxoffice revenue by adding $27.18million for its second week. “Big Hero 6” from Disney broke into the ranking list by $13.81million in two days’ debut as mainland China market was still under the reign of domestic films.
The sequel and adaptation from reality show, “Where Are We Going? Dad 2” followed “Big Hero 6” very closely at $13.78million. The second installment hasn’t surpassed its last film’s debut week record of $41.63million for over 11 days, it still took the sixth place in the week after Chinese New Year. “Triumph in the Skies” gained $10.4million in the eighth week and totally took $23.27million from mainland China’s market. “Boonie Bears: Mystical Winter” cumed $2.87million on 516310 moviegoers and notched up $47million for 313 days. Debuting before Valentine’s Day, Xu Jinglei’s romance, “Somewhere Only We Know” romance, made $45million in 20 days’ screening.
