According to EBOT, mainland boxoffice gross in the first week of 2015 (Jan. 5-11) started with $81million, pacing down 23% from the previous week, yet up 48% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 14.79million, with loss of 30% than the week Dec. 29, 2014-Jan.4, 2015.

Through a full week screening after debut on January 4, “Night at the Museum 3” was ranked top of the first week’s Mainland China boxoffice race. The Hollywood comedy earned a modest $26.32million on 4.9million admissions. With high expectation from both the Lu Han fans and the China-Korean production companies, such as Huace, Lecheng and CJ, “Miss Granny” hit nearly $20million for its first four days by taking 24.4% of the market last week. “The Taking of Tiger Mountain” saw a steep drop in its third week with $17.2million weekly gross, still, the No.3 in the cooling down market from the New Year celebration. The 3D release of “The Grandmaster” gained $4.85million in opening week, showing 445595 for 2.7million admissions. Neither “One Hundred Thousand Bad Jokes” nor “Love on Cloud” held on the top 5 ranking in the first week of 2015, taking $3.93million and $2.74million from the nationwide cinema chains, respectively.

Two newcomers from overseas took the seventh and ninth place: “Predestination” reaching $1.11million and “The Two Faces of January” fetching $0.68million. As for the other two flicks screening for 12 days: “Khumba” added new $0.92million and “Bloody Doll” grew $0.79million.

The domination of “Night at the Museum 3” in the first week of mainland China was gradually taking over by “Miss Granny” through the weekend.
