Week 53: 'The Taking of Tiger Mountain' Grabs No.1 in New Year Holidays

According to enbase statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 53rd week (Dec. 29 2014-Jan.4 2015) reached $124million, up 75% vs. the previous week. Moviegoers this week totaled 20.84million, with growth of 15% than the 52nd week.

Though encountering rushing new films in the New Year season, “The Taking of Tiger Mountain” stood at top of the weekly gross and admissions, taking $58.23million in its 13 days’ showing. “Love on the Cloud”, demonstrating the life about three young men’s romance and dream pursuing in Beijing, maintained the second place in its second week on screens with $18.97million and $42.18million total gross. In the last week of 2014, “Gone with the Bullets” fell behind the newcomer “One Hundred Thousand Bad Jokes”, gaining $6.54million weekly gross. As the anticipated animations for the young moviegoers, “One Hundred Thousand Bad Jokes” earned $13.3 in the five-day debut with 88006 showings to almost 2.6million audiences.


Taking the fourth place in only one day, “Night at the Museum 3” stored $4.6million for opening night yet their performance is hard to tell. Two close runners after the Hollywood blockbuster are “Who is under Cover” and “Khumba”, which made over $4million in debut week. One thriller occupied the eight place was “Bloody Doll”, grossed $2.92million on showing for its first five days. Rounding out the top10 of the week were animations from US—“The Nut Job”, and from home—“Brave Rabbit 2: Crazy Circus”.
