Week 50: "Fleet of Time" the Top Romance of the Year?
According to enbase statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 50th week (Dec. 8-14, 2014) reached $79million, a drop of 14% than the previous week, yet up 22% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 14million, with slide of 8% than the 49th week.
"Fleet of Time” continued leading the Mainland China’s boxoffice and cashed in another $35.64million in its second week. As a co-production of Galloping Horse Media, Enlight Media, Youku Tudou Film and so on, “Fleet of Time” cumed nearly 6.3million admissions, dominating 45.2% of the market. The runner-up, “Meet Miss Anxiety” debuted with Zhou Xun and $13.94million, taking 17.7% of the weekly total. Falling in the third place, “The Crossing” gained $7.64million weekly gross and $26.44million in total. “Women Who Flirt”, the other romance starring Zhou Xun, added $6.92million into $34.12million total gross in the 50th week of Mainland China cinemas. Showing for 33 days, the only animation kept the fifth place of last week and benefited from its unique humor for $3.64million weekly gross. The sixth place of the 50th week was “Interstellar”, totaling $121.99million for 33 days.
Korean blockbuster, “Roaring Current” hit the top 7 boxoffice earner of last week which occupied 2.7% of the market with $2.12million revenue. The last Hollywood production on the top 10 boxoffice list was “Fury”, which accounted for 1.5% market share with $1.2million. The No. 9 and No. 10 were “Rise of the Legend” and “The Galaxy on the Earth”, weekly earning $860,000 and $600,000.
EBOT statistics demonstrates significant weekend revenues contributed to “Fleet of Time” ‘s becoming of the biggest winner of boxoffice in the continuous 2 weeks. In the debut weekend, “Fleet of Time” stormed in $32.92million which is $11.6million more than top romance, “Breakup Guru” debut weekend record by now. “The Crossing”, opened in the same week as “Fleet of Time”, however an earlier comer on Tuesday, taking in only $8.71million in same weekend. Seeing declining of film receipts in weekend 50, “Fleet of Time” still maintained the most popular romance in current weeks—$17.59million, obviously higher than first showing weekend of “Meet Miss Anxiety” with $13.75million.
