Week 50 Preview: Six New Films--None from Hollywood
Romantic comedy "Meet Miss Anxiety" stars Zhou Xun, who is fresh off the successful $13.5 million Chinese debut of "Women Who Flirt". "Meet Miss Anxiety" has tallied more than 27 million trailer views on Tencent--the popular Chinese video site--thanks to plenty of media coverage.
"Roaring Currents" looks to build on the massive success it had in South Korea where it passed Avatar in order to become the most successful film of all time in that market. Unfortunately, online searches and overall trailer views indicate that "Roaring Currents" may not be huge in China. The film may have been hurt by a release date switch from November 28 to December 12.
Also opening are two more comedies--"Who Moved My Dream" and "Wo Yao Ni Kai Hua"--and "Flower's Curse", a suspense film about a mysterious death.
"Interstellar" 's run is winding down in China, but it should still hold up reasonably well this week. With more than $120 million in the bank, Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic is the most successful movie that Warner Bros. has opened in China as well as the biggest 2D earner of all time for Hollywood in the Middle Kingdom.
