Week 48: 'Interstellar' Soared over $100Mn
According to EBOT, mainland boxoffice gross in the 48th week (Nov.24-30, 2014) fell to $78million, decreasing 11% from the previous week, yet up 32% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 14million, with loss of 11% than the 46th week.
"Interstellar” still held on the first place of Mainland China’s boxoffice for the third week in a row. The “Nolan” film added $23.25million for a solid $108.69million total gross in Mainland China, taking nearly 30% of the market share on big screens for 140984 times. “Women Who Flirt” became the second powerful money maker when it opened nationwide on the weekend, absorbed $13.05million with only 93264 showings. Maintaining the third place with $12.21million weekly gross, “Rise of the Legend” closely followed “Women” rival in its second week. Rounding out the top 5 film of the 48th week was “Penguins of Madagascar” and “Fury”, which respectively contributed $8.22million and $7.73million to 20.4% of the weekly total revenue.
"Fleet of Time”, originally the popular novel and the drama series produced by video site giant Sohu TV, earning $3.35million in advanced screening, thanks to supports from massive fanbase. The film by veteran director and producer, Zhang Yibai, will be officially shown on December 5.
"Autómata” accumulated $2.58million on debut week and marked the No. 7 in boxoffice ranking. Showing for 20 days, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2” paced down in the 48th week, taking $1.54million for $31.63million total gross. The ninth place was taken by “The Galaxy on Earth”, which centered on South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China, gaining $1.43million in its third week in theatres. From the bottom of the top 10 list, “Bad Sister” recorded $1.05million for the first three days’ screening.
