According to EBOT, mainland boxoffice gross in the 47th week (Nov.17-23, 2014) reached $88million, a slight drop of 8% than the previous week, yet up 29% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 15.35million, shrinking 11% than the 46th week.
"Interstellar” maintained the first place with $41.45million in the 47th week, and its total boxoffice gross soared to $84.59million in 12 days’ screening. Bringing the moviegoers relaxation and fun, “Penguins of Madagascar” was rewarded with $12.5million weekly gross and rose to the second place. The Chinese Kung Fu flick “Rise of the Legend” earned a solid $12.01million and took the third place since its debut. “Fury”, the other masculine film, cumed $7.1million gross and enjoyed 80797 showings with Brad Pitt fans in the first weekend. Last week’s second winner "Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2” saw a steep slide on its second week’s on showing, and the weekly boxoffice only increased $6.99million. The Ninja Turtles fever gradually cooled down and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” only took additional $1.7million into the total of $62.13million in Mainland Chinese market.
Nolan’s “Interstellar” monopolized the market and resulted in squeezing of the market share to the film debuted in the 47th week. Rounding out the top 10 was the films stood for over seven days: “Haunted Road”, “The Nightingale” “The Galaxy On the Earth” and “For Love Or Money”. The above four films totally taking 4.4% of the market share, contributing $4.91million of the 47th week.
According to EBOT, five films have already taken 95% of screening of the 45th weekend’s film market in mainland China. Still, “Interstellar” absolutely occupied top spot with $22.49million revenue and top showing rate of 40% from November 21-23. “Rise of the Legend” was scheduled 21% of the total showings, definitely impacted on other newly comers, such as “Fury”, squeezing its debut screening rate into 14%. Taking less 460,000 admissions than "Rise of the Legend" in the weekend, "Penguins of Madagascar" relatively missed over $3million .Comparing to "Fury", "Don't Go Breaking My Heart 2" gaining less audiences while the screening rate shrank to 4%, grossed $1.97million by November 23.
