Week 48 Preview: Serious Film Pray Lucks Encountering Romances
According to Enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, ten films below will be released in Mainland China in the 48th week (Nov. 24-30). Except “The Girl”, a small budget romance, scheduled to open on Monday, other films will be released on November 28, Friday. In the 48th week, the romances will still be the mainstream with “Women Who Flirt ” and "Bad Sister” poised to win the audiences in the weekend market. “Blind Massage” perhaps won’t get cold feet since it swept six Golden Horses in the past weekend. In the fierce boxoffice gaming, “Automata” and “Fire with Fire”, the two imported films will struggle to survive among the tussle of entertainments and serious films.
Other than the appealing cast in “Women Who Flirt”, which staring Zhou Xun and Huang Xiaoming from mainland China as well as Taiwanese stars Sie Yi-Lin and Sui Tang, the other love stories, “Ai Qing Kuang Xiang Qu” ("The Love Rhapsody”) and “Young Time” perhaps won’t stand a gainful week in cinemas. “Bad Sister” will wait and see if it can satisfy movie fans with Taiwanese actress Ivy Chen, ever in Bushan Film Festival opening film, “Paradise in Service” and Korean actor, Jin Hee Ji, ever in Peter Chan’s “Perhaps Love”. “I Am Not a Thief”, is about searching a missing golden phoenix coronet in rural village, presenting a fresh comedy and suspense in upcoming weekend.
Through comparing the metioned or taged times on Sina Weibo, a Twitter of China, “Women Who Flirt” kept hot discussing and soared to 17518 times of mentioned until last Thursday. Due to lack of attentions, "Automata" sank on the bottom of mention's numbers yet gradually raised about 3000 weibos on November 22. The Golden Horse winner, “Blind Massage” took advantage from the red carpet and awarding reports, catching up and surpassing “Women Who Flirt” on the awarding night. Though hitting the hot topic list, it still remains a question that if the enthusiasm to watch a serious film with friends and dates will take over the favour to romances in the mainland Chinese film market this week.
