Week 46: 'Interstellar' Rising to Top in Mainland China
According to enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 46th week (Nov.3-9, 2014) notched $95.8million, increasing 45% than the previous week, also up 78% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 16.82million, growing 44% than the 45th week.
"Interstellar” obviously the led the race with taking 44.2% market share, and absorbed $42.33million in the opening week. In the five-day screening, “Intestellar” attracted over 7.1million moviegoers in 14316 showings, which doubled the admission number of the second biggest box office winner “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2”. The later one earned $19.54million, also on its fifth day of debut, showing 157107 times in total. “Penguins of Madagascar” hit the mainland Chinese market on the weekend and happily tapped on the third place with $11.23 million weekly gross. Below the three newcomers, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" speeded down in the 45th week, gaining additional $7.85million into $60.33million total gross. “For Love Or Money” still maintained the fifth place in weekly gross, yet market share shrank into 3.8%. “The Maze Runner” dropped out from top 5 for the first time and grossed $2.02million, showing less than 30,000 times in its third week screening.
"Kung Fu Jungle” dived to the seventh place of the 46th week in mainland China, adding $1.82 million into $18.7million total gross. Taking only 1.5% of the market share, “Lucy” was gradually weakening the superpower after 24-day’s on screens. Rounding out the top 10 were thriller, “Haunted Road” and crime suspense, “The Boundary”, contributed $1.2mn and $1.13mn to the 46th week’s boxoffice revenue, respectively.
