Week 44: 'Ninja Turtles' Leapt Over 'Lucy'

According to enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 44th week (Oct.27-Nov.2, 2014) reached $81.38million, increased 16% than the previous week, up 101% y-o-y. Moviegoers this week totaled 14.28million, a rise of 15%, comparing to the 43rd week.

In three-day’s screening, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" easily leapt over “Lucy” with 32.6% of the market share, cashing in $48.56million. Falling to the second place, “Lucy” injected an additional $16.16million weekly gross into its $37.7million total gross in Mainland China. The close follower was “The Maze Runner”, which cumed $13.7million for six days, showing to 2.7million film fans. As the only Chinese language film on 44th week’s top 5, “Kung Fu Jungle” earned $7.82million on its debut week. “Guardians of the Galaxy” saw a slide from the No. 2 seat to No.5, gaining $5.81million with over 72,000 showings nationwide. “Breakup Buddies” also saw weakening after four weeks’ tour in cinemas. The road-trip comedy has grossed $187.91million with totaled 33,852,646 admissions by November 2.

In the 44th week, boxoffice of “Hercules” came in seventh place with market share shrinking to 2.5%, and earned $2.01million. The eighth place was taken by domestic thriller “The Haunted Cinema”, weekly grossed $1.38million. Both “A Chinese Odyssey Part Two” and “Sex Appeal” broke $2million total box office after ten-day’s screening, obtaining $2.29million and $2.56million respectively. 
 

 

Base on enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, top five cities of Mainland China contributed to the market at least $1.77million on each day. Beijing and Shanghai were the leading stages in China for the ticket sales vie, winning nearly $1million on last Monday. The opening of “The Maze Runner” pulled up the total gross of the five cities to $2.05million on October 28. The box office of five cities saw calming down about 10% on last Wednesday and Thursday. The box office of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu market didn’t reach $1million in total until Friday. Five films chose their debuts on Friday of the 44th week, including the box office winner, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. With the boost of moviegoers on weekend, all five cities in Mainland China doubled their boxoffice venues. On November 1, the Saturday, five cities’ boxoffice topped at $5.91million, as Shanghai approaching the best daily record of the 44th week: $1.64million. The five-city market of the 44th week ended with a drop, wrapping up at $4.7million.
