Week 41: 'Breakup Buddies' Maintained B.O. Crown

According to Enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 41st week (Oct. 6-12, 2014) reached $112million, dropped 34% comparing to the previous week, yet up 123% y-o-y. The total admissions declined into 19.4million last week, drop 34% than the 40th week.

Starring Huang Bo and many other famous actors, "Breakup Buddies" easily maintained the top spot for the second week in a row, taking in a solid $48.56million in weekly gross. The road-trip comedy has grossed $151.32million through 13 days of release and 9 days advanced screening. "Guardians of the Galaxy" opened on October 10 and debuted at second place with $30.07million. In the 41st week, boxoffice of “Dearest” accounted for 10% of mainland market with additional $11.65million to $47.5million total gross. Taiwanese crime and action sequel  "Black & White Episode 2" came in fourth place with market share shirking to less than 9% and earned $30.47million in total.

The representative film of Hong Kong to Oscar race, directed by Ann Hui, “Golden Era” were present in the mainland box office for 12 days, which could not compete with "Black & White Episode 2”, released on same day. Its weekly income was close to $2.6million with 31,912 showings and 421096 admissions. The domestic sci-fi and thriller about violent pest disaster, “Bugs”, performed well in 3-day debut, taking the sixth place through earning $1.97million on weekend. Rounding out the top 10 were animations “McDull”, "Armor Hero Atlas" "Xin Da Tou Er ZI” and “Kuiba 3” on second or third week screening, contributing a $5.9million to the $112million of Mainland China boxoffice total gross.

According to enbase statistics, "Breakup Buddies" dominated mainland boxoffice screenings in first four days of 41st week, enjoying nearly 40% of the daily screening share while seeing a 15% drop on the weekend. "Black & White Episode 2’’ and "Dearest" took up to 20.3% and 17.1% respectively on Thursday as well. "Guardian of the Galaxy" taking 38.1% of the screenings on its October 10 debut, which strongly squeezed the daily screening rates of previous week’s top 3 films. As the only Hollywood blockbuster on screens, "Guardian of the Galaxy" occupied the Mainland Chinese cinemas with a steady share over 36.6%. The daily screening rate of ‘’Black & White Episode 2’’ decreased the most fiercely to 6.5% on last day of the week.
