Preview: Romantic Week 42 after Golden Week
The National Day Holiday of China, also as "Golden Week" (Oct. 1-7), had brought a $175 million in boxoffice. Taking a 58% market share in Golden Week, "Breakup Buddies" was easily crowned the B.O. emperor with $101.8 million and gained $41.1 million in advanced screening. According to Enbase’s China film boxoffice historical statistics, the gross total of the film has exceeded the whole market earning of same period last year ($100.8 mn).
According to Enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, ten films below various in genres will be released in Mainland China in the 41th week. The 3D version of "Ice Age: The Meltdown" will meet the film fans for the first time in Chinese theatres. "Blue Bone", a drama directed by Chinese rock icon since 1980s, Cuijian, will attract not only music fans but also people from different generations to cinemas. As one of the popular film type, the romances targeting a wider range of audiences are going to fight in the 41th week, such as "Waiting. Cafe. Love", "South of the Clouds", "The Break-up Seasons", etc.
Baidu Search Index shows that upcoming romance "Waiting. Cafe. Love", produced by Jiubadao, a Taiwanese youth romance writer and director, has stronger appealing than "South of the Clouds" from one week before screening (Oct.1-7). The search index of "Waiting. Cafe. Love" reached 3268 on the last second day of the golden week holiday, which doubled "South of the Clouds" of its highest record on October 7. More male search engine users tended to follow the two romances than female ones. The searching "Waiting. Cafe. Love"and "South of the Clouds" mostly came from male film fans, taking 75% and 73% respectively.
