Week 39: "Dearest" Touched Top B.O.

According to Enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 39th week (Sep. 22-28, 2014) reached $48.61 million, dropped 7% comparing to last week, yet up 18% y-o-y. The total admissions declined into 9.13 million last week, drop 9% than the previous week.

After visiting several international film festivals, "Dearest" was the strongest film of the 39th week, earning $15.85 million with 32.3% market share in her hometown debut. With market share slightly rising to 15.2%, "Non-Stop" rose upward with $7.44 million weekly gross to the second place, total gross $14.87 million. The third place of 39th week boxoffice in mainland China was taken by “One Step Away”, adding $4.87 million to total $11.32 million. "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and “The Expendables 3" didn’t halt the prolonged ranking fight but both slipped to the fourth and fifth place. "Expendables 3" took less $41.82 million in 28 days, comparing to "Apes" winning $114.69 million in total for 31 days’ screening.

"Into the storm", last week’s top 4, was ranked top 6 and blew in $2.25 million for $17.34 in total. The strongest domestic film of 38th week, "But Always", falling to seventh place, weekly grossed $2.08 million. The last film tracked a weekly gross over $1 million was the adaptation of classic animation, "Xin DaTou Er Zi”, with an exact number of $1.95 million. Rounding out the top 10 boxoffice of 39th week were “Divergent” and “The Eight House”, recorded $520,000 and $410,000 respectively. 

In the 40th week (Sep. 29-Oct.5, 2014), the mainland China B.O. will celebrate a "golden week" for National Day holidays. With "Breakup Buddies" and other two opening on Sep.30, eight films will smash into cinemas on Oct. 1. The fierce competition will be predicted among the various genres of comedy “Breakup Buddies”, female writer biography "The Golden Era” and crime action "Black& White Episode 2", etc. Followed by one more animation on Oct.3, more fiercely, eight animations such as “Mc Dull” and “Kuiba 3” ,  will struggle a living in the upcoming week.
