Week 38: 'Apes' Ruled as B.O. Shrinking
According to Enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 38th week (Sep. 15-21, 2014) reached $52.15 million, slide 34%, comparing to last week, down 6% y-o-y. The total admissions shrank into 9.86 million last week, less 35% than the previous week.
"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" still ruled the top of Mainland China B.O., yet only accounted in $8.44 million due to plummeted showings and admissions. Less 1.5% market share than the highest 16.2%, “The Expendables 3” didn’t reach $8 million ($7.62 mn) in its 3rd week in Mainland China. The third place was taken by another Hollywood blockbuster, "Non-stop", which attempted to make $7.28mn in its debut. “Into the Strom” slightly rose to fourth place in the 37th week with a $7.21 mn weekly gross and $14.83 mn in total. “But always” was the only domestic film on the Top 5 list, contributing $6.41 mn to $34.28 mn total gross. "One Step Away" followed one step after "But Always" in the first three-day on screens, gaining $6.31 nm. "Divergent” ($2.18 mn) falling to seventh place, "Cold Eyes" making first $1.23 mn, "Beauty and the Beast" the ninth and "Inside the Girls" the tenth was shown last week when the total market decreased massively.
In the 39th week (Sep. 22-28, 2014), three films below will be released in Mainland China. The Venice and TIFF visitor, "Dearest", classic animation "Da Tou Er Zi" and a 3D action "Out Cast" will no doubt stimulate the dull boxoffice in the upcoming week.
