Mainland China Box Office Performance in Week 44
According to China Box-office statistics by enbase, the mainland Box-office gross in Week 44 (Oct 24- Oct 30, 2011) reached $22.88 million, showing a 15% box-office growth from last month, a 46% increase compared to the same time last year. Moviegoers this week counted as 4.4 million in total, 11% up compared to last month. Hollywood Sci-Fi film "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" contributed $10.24 million in ticket sales to mainland film market within its opening 3 days as the winner of box office. “The Green lantern” won Top 2 spot with $3.86 million this week. Romantic comedy”Love on Credit” made $2.05 million in its second week, it was the only domestic film in the Top 3. Domestic films market share continued its gloomy situation slumping to 32%, a new low point comparing to last week’s 42.8% market share.
New-released Hollywood Sci-fi “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” hit $10.24 million this week within 3 days, making it the biggest winner not only in this week but also since this Summer Season. Its good reputation and CGI effects produced by the same “Avatar” team gained $1.75 billion in ticket sales in North America market. “The Green Lantern” was beaten by the Top 1 with $3.86 million box office sales caught the number 2 and slumped 34% comparing to its last week’s box office performance. The other Hollywood Sci-fi “Limitless” grossed $7.61 million in total since screened.
On the domestic films’ side, Romantic comedy “Love on Credit” squeezed into Top 3 with total gross $4.5 million since its opening day. Another modern relationship drama ”Sleepless Fashion” surprisingly got a box office growth of 17% comparing to last week gaining $0.52 million. But due to lack of marketing work, this film did not get a satisfying score as it’s been expected. “Lost in Panic Cruise” on the sequel of “Lost in Panic Room” which is released in the same period of last year, this year’s “Lost in Panic Cruise” earned $1.39 million within 4 days. “Sleepwalker 3D” got $0.99 million, beaten down by the similar theme film “Lost in Panic Cruise”.
