Week 36: 'Expendables' Kicked 'Apes' from Top
According to Enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, mainland boxoffice gross in the 36th week (Sep. 1-7, 2014) reached $71.04 million, less 23% than last week, yet up 65% y-o-y. The total admissions declined into 12.97 million last week, drop 21% than the previous week.
"The Expendables 3" easily kicked off “Apes” from the top in its first week on screens, taking in a solid $32.84 million in weekly gross. The action sequel took 46.3% of the market share and squeezed its first follower’s share into 38.1%. The third place of the 36th week, “But always”, accounted for nearly 10% in three days’ screening. “How to Train Your Dragon 2” fell one place to 4th, adding $0.8 million to a total of $64.27 million in 4 weeks.
In the 37th week (Sep. 8-14, 2014), the films below will be released in Mainland China. With 6 films coming to cinemas on the same day (Sep.12), the mainland market continues to heat up new entries vie for ticket sales.
