Mainland China Box Office Performance in Week 43

According to China Box-office statistics by enbase, the mainland Box-office gross in Week 43 (Oct 11- Oct 23, 2011) reached $19.86 million, showing a 4% box-office growth from last month, a 28% increase compared to the same time last year. Moviegoers this week counted as 3.96 million in total, 1% up compared to last month. Hollywood film "The Green Lantern" contributed $5.86 million in ticket sales to mainland film market within its opening 4 days as the winner of box office. Relativity Media presented “Limitless” won Top 2 spot with $2.98 million this week. Romantic comedy”Love on Credit” made a modest $2.45 million over 4 days, it was the only domestic film in the Top 3. “The Sorcerer and the White Snake” finally cross the line of RMB 2 billion ($30.34 million) in total gross in its third week. China box office market continued its depression after the National Day holidays, especially domestic films market share slumped to 42.8%, a new low point comparing to last week’s 69% market share. Industry insiders expect a Boom in the Chinese New Year release frame, during when a dozen blockbusters such as Zhang Yimou’s “The Flowers of War” and the renewed version “East Meets West 2011”will be released.

Warner Bros.’ Animated-Action movie '"Green Lantern" lit up last week’s gloomy market with $ 5.86 million over 4 days and ranked Top 1 on the list. The superhero pulled in ticket sales large crowds both in North America and Hong Kong market, it was the top-grossing in its first released week in the both regions. Its CGI and 3D visual effects attracted nearly 1 million audiences to cinemas to watch the American superhero show. Another Hollywood flat-rate imported film“Limitless” gained $2.98 million as Top 2. “Fake identity” just listed Top 7 earning a ticket sale of $1 million within its 6 days.

 

On the domestic films’s side, Romantic comedy ”Love on credit” was the only local film In box office top 3. Leste Chen’s film grossed $2.45 million through distributor and investor Beijing Galloping Horse Film & TV Production. Modern relationship drama “Sleepless Fashion” was affected by the “Lost copies” accident, gaining a disappointing $0.44 million with number 10 spot in box office. “ The Sorcerer and the White Snake”  crossed the line of RMB 2 billion ($30.34 million) 26 days after its released, as the same time released  “Mural” grossed $27.12 million in its 25 days run.
 
 
In the coming Week 44 (Oct 24-Oct 30, 2011), films as below are going to be released in mainland China.
