Weekend Report: 'Gravity' Beats 'Catching Fire'
With an outstanding opening on Monday, Gravity quickly topped the box office chart in a week's time. It raked in $21.9 million during the weekend, pushing its cume up to $35.17 million. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire followed in second place with $10.38 million, which was not as good as the unprecedentedly record-breaking performance in North America. Overall, the weekend total gross was $41.4 million, a 41 percent increase from the previous weekend.
Starring Daniel Wu and Yao Chen, the actioner Control earn $3.43 million in its opening three days, an 8.3 percent share of the market. As Huayi Bros. claimed to aim at the audiences in second and third-tier cities, the box office results were good enough for a domestic film competing with two hollywood tentpoles at this time of the year.
