Cinema chains with over RMB 100million Yuan boxoffice receipts continued to grow
According to enbase’s China film boxoffice statistics, cinema chains taking in over RMB 100million Yuan boxoffice receipts continued to grow in 2011. Comparing to five cinema chains with such a huge profit in last year, there are 24 cinema chains crossed the 100million line. Among these giant theaters, Wanda Cinema Line, Stellar Cinema Chain, Shanghai United Circuit and China Film Southern Cinema Chain are the biggest winners in boxoffice market which caught more than RMB 1billion Yuan in 2011.
According to EntGroup Consulting, number of cinema investment and management companies reached 204 in 2011, and amongst which 23 companies took in more than RMB 100 Yuan. As an individual cinema investment and management company, Wanda Cinema Line generated RMB 1billion Yuan in 2011 from its cinemas formed of contracted alliance. For the third year in a row, Wanda Cinema Line becomes China’s highest-grossing cinema circuit in 2011.
The fast growth of amount of cinemas and screens failed to match condition of market demand. Along with the situation that competition for real estate are getting fiercer in the first tier cities, investors started to aim at the second and third tier cities. A number of cinemas emerged in such cities in 2011. Movie theater industry will march into the acclimatization stage in next three years.
