The American Film Market will see a record of over 120 buying companies from 23 countries making their AFM debut.

AFM said more than 750 buying companies from 70 countries will send over 1,500 representatives to the market, which runs Oct. 31 to Nov. 7.

South Korea will have the most new buyers, followed by China with 13, the United States with 11, Japan and Turkey with six, Russia with five and France and Italy with four each.

"We are seeing a shift in the way subdistributors acquire films as they steadily rely less on local distributors and more on direct acquisitions," said Jonathan Wolf, AFM managing director.

New U.S. buyers include Artsploitation, Big Air, Bristol Media International, Cinedigm, Cobalt Media, Euramco, Filmedia World Entertainment, Funimation Entertainment, Hulu, Imax, Industrial Entertainment, Snapsoul, Tribeca Enterprises and Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Last year's market saw a 61% increase in buyers from China.

A total 420 films will screen, with more than 300 showing for first time at a film market, including "The ABCs of Death" from Magnolia Pictures; "Ginger and Rosa," starring Christina Hendricks and Elle Fanning, from the Match Factory; and Dustin Hoffman-directed "Quartet."
