Writer Mo Yan Expects More Film Adaptations of his Works
Mo Yan's has drawn wide interest as his books sold out in many cities in China after winning the Nobel Prize for Literature. Nearly 20 film production companies were reportedly in negotiations to buy his books, according to M1905.com.
The writer himself said during an interview last week that he is willing to take charge of the screenplays if any director can bring his other works, such as "Big Breasts & Wide Hips", "Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out" or "Sandalwood Death", to the big screen.
He said that these books can be made into movies but that directors have yet to identify the true dramatic conflicts at the heart of the novels.
Zhang Yimou's "Red Sorghum", which was based on his novel of the same name, won wide acclaim in world film markets.
