Jia Zhangke Supports New Director at Busan
New director Song Fang unveiled her award-winning debut "Memories Look at Me" at the 17th Busan International Film Festival yesterday. Jia Zhangke, executive producer of the film, also showed at the event to support her, ent.qq.com reports.
Jia accepted an interview after the screening and said he didn't want to cooperate with a female director at first but that Song's story deeply touched his heart.
"A female director can drive you crazy when she gets too stubborn," he said.
He told reporters that Song never intended to conquer audiences or the film market.
"She only wants to tell her story, and that's why we can feel the sincere and true emotions in the movie," he added.
"Memories Look at Me" won the Best First Feature Award at the 65th Locarno International Film Festival in early August.
