Imax Signs Four-Theater Deal in China With Orange Sky Golden Harvest Cinemas
TORONTO – Imax Corp. has taken another step into mainland China via a deal with Orange Sky Golden Harvest Cinemas for four digital theaters to go into newly-built multiplexes.
The first theater is set to go in the Tianjin Milky Way International Shopping Centre in Tianjin in December 2012.
The second Imax screen will open in the Guangzhou Feishi Plaza in Guangdong in September 2013.
And the remaining two theaters are set to be installed by the end of 2014 as part of unspecified new construction projects.
Rival exhibitors in mainland China like Stellar Cinemas and CJ CGV have also ordered Imax digital screens recently as part of their own circuit expansions.
The agreement was unveiled by Andrew Mao, CEO of Orange Sky Golden Harvest, and Imax CEO Richard Gelfond.
Orange Sky Golden Harvest operates 48 multiplexes with 371 screens across mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.
