Central Asia Film Fest Proves Platform for Cultural Exchanges
In the Uzbek capital Tashkent, filmmakers from around the world have gathered at one of the biggest film festivals in Central Asia. The weeklong event has proved to be a great platform for cultural exchanges.
It’s a grand gathering of international filmmakers. The Second Golden Guepard International Film Festival holds competition-based and non-competition programs. Filmmakers from 45 countries have brought over 500 works.
This year’s festival was presented under the slogan “Civilizations of the 21st Century: Dialogue of Cultures”.
Among the jury of the Second Tashkent International Film Forum "Golden Guepard", are known and respected global filmmakers such as jury president Nick Powell - a leading British film director, director of the British Academy of cinema and television, and the vice-chairman of the European Cinema Academy.
Many attendees spoke positively about the event’s future.
An artist said, "I believe that more and more film practitioners will participate in the forum and a lot of new good films and stars will emerge here. The art of film is a great form to increase our understanding of each other and this is a great platform!"
The First Tashkent International Film forum was held in October, 2011, screening over 40 works from the US, Europe, Asia and Africa. The event is organized by the Forum of Culture and Arts of the Uzbekistan Foundation with support from the Uzbekkino National Agency.
