China's Doraemon, Animation-Comic-Game Events Delayed
Due to recent anti-Japanese demonstrations in China, both a Doraemon event and an Animation-Comic-Game (ACG) event have been postponed. The special exhibition marking 100 years before the birth of the manga robot cat Doraemon would have started on September 15. The five-day international ACG event was scheduled to start on September 30 in Guangzhou, China with a guest appearance by niconico singer Pico and three other artists.
October's Anisama in Shanghai 2012 -Next Stage- anime song concert event has also been delayed until further notice.
Diplomatic relations between China and Japan began deteriorating after Japan purchased the Senkaku Islands (called Diaoyu in China) from their private Japanese owners this month. China, Taiwan, and Japan all claim ownership of the territory, and anti-Japanese protests arose in both China and Taiwan.
China recently cancelled events to commemorate 40 years of diplomatic relations with Japan.
