China’s Huace Pulls ‘Trigger’ on Mauro Borrelli’s Action Thriller
As he continues to expand on a successful art direction career, Mauro Borrelli has sold action thriller script, Trigger, to Croton Media, a division of China’s Huace Film & TV. Huace’s been stretching its international reach, partnering with Fox International Productions to explore co-pro opportunities and last week pacting with ITV on a format adaptation for the Middle Kingdom. Its Croton Media produces and distributes films and TV programs.
Trigger revolves around an aging hitman who goes rogue after his employer gives him a final contract — to kill his own daughter. Borrelli will direct with production taking place between China and Thailand.
Borrelli is best known for his collaborations with director Tim Burton. He’s worked as illustrator and artist on such films as Sleepy Hollow, Planet Of The Apes and Dark Shadows. Other credits include The Hateful Eight, the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, Final Fantasy and Captain America: The First Avenger.
He most recently directed alien invasion thriller The Recall starring Wesley Snipes for Mindeye Entertainment and Vantage Media International. In 2012, he helmed Lionsgate supernatural horror thriller Ghostmaker. He also recently wrote and directed White Shoe, an award-winning short film inspired by the life and work of Salvatore Ferragamo.
Adel Nur of Halcyon Talent Agency brokered the deal and represents Borrelli internationally.
