American filmmaker Tim Burton's new latest movie, "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" is set to hit Chinese theatres in just over a day.

Speaking at a promotional event in Beijing ahead of the film's opening, the 58-year-old Burton says he took some liberties when it came to the adaptation of his film from the original book.

"One of the monsters, not look just so much like regular monsters as why they're still wearing clothes because people who turned into monsters. And it was just something like an old children's bedtime scary story about monsters that eat children's eyes. It just felt like a part of what I love about Ransom's book is like an old bedtime story; the monster came to the window, and eats children's eyes. You know, it sounds scary but also sounds funny."

Among those who turned out for the film's premier in Beijing this Wednesday is Chinese actress Qi Xi.

"I feel Tim Burton is like a child and unique in his way of telling stories from the perspective of children. This made his movie special when most grown-ups have already lost the curiosity they used to have in childhood. Another thing he wants to convey via this movie is that nobody should be fear of being peculiar and just be yourself."

"Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" is an adaptation from a 2011 novel.

It's due to open in theatres across China on Friday.
