BEIJING -- The Motion Picture Assn.'s Asia Pacific prexy Mike Ellis has been honored for his contribution to intellectual property rights protection in China at a copyright gathering in Beijing.
The presentation was made at the annual Jinhui Awards, which recognize the contribution made by companies and individuals towards protecting IPR and copyright trade at the fourth China Intl. Copyright Expo in Beijing.
"I accept on behalf of the MPA and the film community for their significant contribution to content protection and the promotion of copyright business in China," Ellis said.
The event was attended by hundreds of regional copyright orgs and government officials.
Copyright theft is a major problem in China, and Hollywood regularly complains that China and other Asian countries are not doing enough to fight piracy. The issue is even more important now as Hollywood seeks to expand in China, the world's fastest growing major film market.
Beijing is currently hosting a major copyright forum and the United Nations' World Intellectual Property Organization. A multilateral treaty to protect global intellectual property rights of thesps and warblers is expected to be signed during the event this week.
