China's Online Video Users Reach 325 Million
China's online video users reached 325 million by the end of 2011, accounting for 63.35 percent of the nation's total number of Internet users, reported Xinhuanet.com on Wednesday, citing an official.
Around 70 percent of Internet traffic comes from the audio-visual program services, Luo Jianhui, director of the Online Audio-visual Programs Management department of the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT), said at a promotional event for the China (Shanghai) Network Audio-Visual Industry Base,
Luo said, up until now, the SARFT has approved 617 units to carry out the business of Internet audio-visual program services, seven units to carry out Internet TV services, and 21 units to carry out mobile phone TV services..
The country has also approved a total of 15 radio and television broadcasters to operate network radio and television.
By relying on audio-visual programs as the main business, five enterprises have already been listed, Luo added.
It also reported that the fourth Online Audio-visual Industry Forum will be held in Shanghai from Dec 6 to 7 this year. The theme for discussion will be about integration and innovation under restructuring.
