Imax China continues to build its screen count in that fast-expanding Asian market after signing a 10-theater deal with Shanghai Aurora Movie Co.
Shanghai Aurora, a film and TV management company, will add Imax's giant screens to eight new multiplexes to be built around China, with another two locations for screens yet to be identified, according to the agreement unveiled Wednesday.
Imax China, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange-listed subsidiary of the Canadian giant-screen exhibitor, recently unveiled plans to install 100 new screens in 2016. Imax installed a record 74 giant screens in 2015 in China.
Shanghai Aurora to date has built 10 cinemas in China. The company plans to back another 30 multiplexes over the next two years, and at least 100 cinemas within five years.
