Hong Kong film group Media Asia has signed a film output agreement with iQIYI. The strategic alliance will see the Chinese streaming giant co-produce and invest in Media Asia’s films.

Media Asia’s chairman Peter Lam and iQIYI founder and CEO Gong Yu symbolically signed the agreement on stage at Hong Kong FilMart on Wednesday (March 16), when Media Asia announced a slate of new titles.

"We have worked with iQIYI before, and the collaboration was always very pleasant. This is a company that knows about the film industry," Gordon Chan, veteran filmmaker and head of film at Media Asia, told Variety. "The alliance is going to provide a solid portal for our filmmakers, giving them the courage to try out new ideas, safe in the knowledge that their film projects, which always entail a risk, have financial support."
