Producer Conveys Confident of 'Star Wars' Performance in China
The 3D epic "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" held its premiere yesterday at Shanghai Grand Theater. It will hit cinemas across China on January 9.
Director J.J. Abrams, producer Kathleen Kennedy, actor John Boyega and actress Daisy Ridley arrived in town and held a press conference today.
Producer Kennedy said that she felt incredibly confident of the film when she saw so many Chinese movie fans cheering, laughing and clapping their hands in the theater.
The "Star Wars" film franchise has been popular worldwide for around 40 years.
"In 'The Force Awakens' I want to tell a brand new story with new characters," said director J.J. Abrams.
The film, the seventh installment in the series has already made over 500 million US dollars in North America. In addition to the loyal fans of former "Star Wars" productions, it also appeals to the younger generation of audience.
