Sohu Set to Help Video Producers on Content
Sohu will provide 3 billion yuan ($462 million) worth of marketing resources to video producers over the next three years, with 200 million yuan offered in the coming year.
The company will also join hands with South Korea's KBS TV station to introduce exclusive South Korean pop TV shows for Chinese viewers in the next three years. South Korean pop stars will also be invited to participate in its in-house produced TV programs and reality shows.
Content providers will receive 40 percent of the advertising income for their video screenings on Sohu and those who provide exclusive videos will receive up to 60 percent of the commission.
This investment of capital is part of Sohu's efforts to promote its online video unit.
Besides adapting popular online novels into TV series such as "Wuxin: The Monster Killer," Sohu is planning to introduce some of its in-house produced sitcoms to the movie screens next year.
"We'll launch more similar shows and strengthen our collaboration with industry partners," said Sohu Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Charles Zhang.
