"Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” has grossed $124 million at the Chinese box office, to become the highest grossing 2D Hollywood film in China, according to Paramount.

The previous record was held by “Interstellar” which released in 2014.

The biggest films at the Chinese box office tend to be those released in 3D, a tendency which reflects Chinese audience tastes, higher ticket prices for 3D movies, and the massive availability of 3D projection systems in China’s new-build exhibition circuits.

"Rogue Nation” opened in China on Sept. 8, scoring a 2D record $18 million first day.

Data from Chinese box office tracker Ent Group showed “Rogue Nation” on top of the box office chart again on Monday (Sept 21.). Over the past 10 days it has traded places with "Minions” which took the weekend crown, while “Rogue Nation” claimed the weekdays.

In China the film is released by China Film Group and Huaxia Distribution with investor Alibaba Pictures Group providing key marketing and online ticketing support. The film is a ParamountPictures and SkyDance Media presentation of a Tom Cruise / Bad Robot Production.
