Oscars: Hong Kong Picks 'To the Fore' for Foreign-Language Category
Director Dante Lam's cycling drama To the Fore has been selected as Hong Kong's representative in the best foreign-language film category at the 88th Academy Awards.
The selection was made and announced by the Federation of Motion Film Producers of Hong Kong.
The sports drama stars Taiwanese actor Eddy Peng (Rise of the Legend), Korean star Choi Si won (of Super Junior fame) and Chinese actor Shawn Dou (Wolf Totem) as a team of cyclers whose team spirit gets put to the test by their competitiveness and pursuit of personal glory.
Produced by Emperor Motion Pictures, Evergrande Pictures, iQIYI Motion Pictures, Suning Universal, and Huace Pictures, the film has grossed $23.6 million (150 million yuan) since being released in August in China, but failed to break the HK$10 million ($1.29 million) mark in Hong Kong.
To the Fore was chosen out of a shortlist that also included director Ringo Lam's Wild City, Mabel Cheung's Tale of Three Cities and Lau Ho-leung's Two Thumbs Up
