IMAX-TCL To Debut Palais Home Theater System in China
IMAX and TCL Multimedia are to give a launch to their Palais premium home theater system in Shanghai, China.
The two opened a showroom at Le Royal Meridien Shanghai to demonstrate the technology which they claim to be the world’s completely turn-key home theatre system from a single source. It includes sound isolation, acoustics, wall treatments, flooring, lighting, seating, and audio-visual content provided by IMAX.
"The launch of the IMAX Private Theatre ‘Palais’ marks the most significant innovation from the newly formed IMAX Home Entertainment division and comes after almost two years of research and ground-up development with our close partner, TCL,” said Robert D. Lister, chief business development officer, IMAX Corp., in a statement.
IMAX is a major force in cinema in China, where its giant screen count is second only to North America. Chairman Rich Gelfond was in China this week at the Shanghai International Film Festival where he gave a keynote speech. The company’s IMAX China unit is currently heading for an IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
TCL-IMAX is a joint venture formed by IMAX Corporation and China’s TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings.
