Chinese Thriller ‘Silent Witness’ to Get Korean Remake
Korean production house Yong Film told Variety that it bought the remake rights to director Fei Xing’s original film. Yong Film said that Jung Ji-woo, director of 2012 Korean film “Eun-gyo,” will take the directorial duty of the film’s Korean version and is currently developing the project.
Details of casting, financing and distribution have yet to be confirmed.
"Silent Witness” starred singing acting superstar Aaron Kwok and China’s Chen Sicheng and was released in China in September 2013. It grossed $29.3 million from ticket sales.
In recent years connections between the Korean and Chinese film industries have strengthened considerably, albeit with most properties flowing from Korea to China.
Yong Film is currently handling the production of “Oldboy” director Park Chan-wook’s “Fingersmith” adaptation “Lady,” which is set to star Ha Jung-woo (“Chronicle of a Blood Merchant”), Kim Min-hee (“No Tears for the Dead”) and Moon So-ri (“Hill of Freedom”).
