The Chinese language remake of the Julia Roberts-Cameron Diaz romantic comedy My Best Friend’s Wedding has found its stars.
Chinese stars Shu Qi, Feng ShaoFeng, Song Qian, who is also known as Victoria Song, and Ye Qing will star in the remake, which sees Columbia Pictures teaming up China Film Co.
Alexi Tan (Blood Brothers, Color Me Love) will direct and produce with his company, Play Productions.
The new movie will be international in scope with shooting to take place in London, Italy and Beijing. Filming begins late July.
In making Wednesday’s announcement, Columbia revealed the logline as centering on “journalists Gu Jia and Lin Ran (who) have grown up together as best friends. One day, Lin Ran calls Gu Jia from the U.K. telling her that he is getting married to someone he only just met, a wealthy Chinese girl who has been studying in the U.K., and asks Gu Jia to be his "best man.” Gu Jia finally realizes that she loves him, not just as a friend, and sets out for London a few days before the wedding determined to win him back.”
Wedding has been slated for a Valentine’s Day 2016, opening in China.
Shu Qi’s credits include movies such as Gone With the Bullets and Journey to the West: Conquering Demons while ShaoFeng has appeared in films such as Wolf Totem and The Golden Era.
Song is a Chinese singer and actress whose credits include My New Sassy Girl. Qing appeared in Brotherhood of Blades.
