Letv's Phone Draws Over 1.2M Buyers Online
More than 1.2 million people ordered Letv's new smartphones online yesterday, boosting the promising industry newcomer as a potential rival of market leaders such as Xiaomi and Huawei Technologies.
Letv, the biggest firm by market value of over 109 billion yuan (US$17.6 billion) on China's ChiNext growth enterprise market, will start shipping the first batch of 200,000 smartphones on Saturday.
Prices for the Letv Super Phones, which come with free Internet data and online video content services, start from 1,499 yuan.
Letv claims its smartphones feature video streaming, full metal design and a super high-definition screen that offers more vivid colors than Apple's iPhone 6 Plus.
The Letv Super Phones tap the company's leading position in video content that draws 400 million monthly users in China.
Letv intends to establish a new business ecosystem encompassing Internet video, TV, smartphone and electric car, which is expected to debut next year, said Jia Yueting, founder and chief executive of Letv.
