Softstar Entertainment Eyes Mobile Gaming Market
Chinese game company Softstar Entertainment Inc, a major player in the country's console game sector, is vying to intensify its presence in mobile gaming by teaming up with Internet companies.
Known for incorporating elements of Chinese traditional culture into its products, the company announced on Thursday it would partner with Tencent Holdings Ltd and Chinese Internet portal NetEase Corp to develop new mobile games this year.
"We missed the train of Web games, but we are still in time to catch the trend of mobile gaming," said Tu Junguang, president of the Taiwan-based company. "We will focus more on developing games for smartphone users this year."
Last year, under the authorization of Softstar, Tencent developed a mobile version of "Fairy Tale Swordsman", the most classical game by the Taiwan company. The product has topped the list of most popular IOS apps for 21 days.
The game developer also announced a host of plans to adapt its games into movies and TV dramas by partnering with Huayi Brothers Media Corp, one of China's largest film companies.
